Phil Cooper is an visionary extraordinary. His creative mind has been the seed of many outstanding
business and organizations that enables the empowerment of the people through his social and
entreprenueral skills.
At a very young age, Phil created the largest waterbed supply company in New Zealand back in 1986.
With a hungry mind, he traveled the world and spent 4 years in New York and Canada. Being left with a
6 months old child and 5 other small children he had to quickly learn the art of being a single dad as well
as the sole bread winner.
Backed by his creativity, he started a signage and design company in 1993 from his garage and a $10,000
bank loan and quickly became the 4 th largest signage company in Australia with 60 staff and a turn-over
of $5 million per year. His signage and design company was responsible for the branding of over 120
petroleum stations around Australia for United Petroleum.
Moved to Christchurch in 2010 and after the devastating Christchurch earthquakes in 2011, having a
strong passion to help the people of Christchurch, started Buildtech alongside his son Israel Cooper.
They were able to grow the company to 170+ staff in just 3 years. Buildtech Holdings was the fastest
growing family to run construction company in New Zealand and continues today to lead the way in
social housing in NZ.
